The Garry Owen Hotel
Despite having 1920 etched on the facade of the building the hotel was established in 1881.

Located on Darling Street, Rozelle, opposite the historic Callan Park insane asylum which opened in 1878. One of the Hotel’s claims to fame is that an inside toilet was installed in an old laundry in 1937 and “was the only pub in Rozelle with a chimney on the toilet”.

“Garryowen”, also known as “Garry Owen”, is an Irish tune for a quickstep dance.

It was also used as a marching tune for Australian, British, Canadian, and American military formations, including General Custer’s 7th Cavalry Regiment and Australia’s 2nd Cavalry Regiment.
